BIODIVERSITY

For WEG, ecosystems and forests are of utmost importance. For this reason, WEG seeks to incorporate biodiversity preservation into its management practices, in alignment with the guidelines of the WEG Sustainability Policy. The company recognizes the importance of forest protection and understands that this is a shared responsibility. Therefore, practices aimed at preserving biodiversity and natural forests are constantly being improved.

Stakeholder Engagement

WEG strengthens its engagement on the topic of biodiversity with its stakeholders through close and integrated action. This relationship is established through multiple channels, including dialogue with local communities, customers, investors, and suppliers. Below, we present some concrete examples of these interactions focused on biodiversity conservation.

WEG recognizes that responsible action throughout the entire value chain is essential. Therefore, all new suppliers undergo an evaluation and selection process based on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, in which biodiversity is specifically considered. In addition, WEG’s Sustainability Policy defines the responsibilities and strategies aimed at promoting sustainable development, structured into Pillars, Themes, and Strategic Objectives. Developed with stakeholder participation, the policy reinforces the strategic objective of biodiversity preservation, highlighting that the topic is addressed in a cross-cutting manner and integrated into the corporate culture. The policy guidelines apply to all audiences engaged with WEG, including employees, managers, service providers, suppliers, and business partners, reinforcing collective engagement in favor of environmental conservation and the appreciation of biodiversity across all company operations.

As part of another initiative focused on valuing biodiversity and caring for urban spaces, WEG (Sertãozinho unit) carried out the planting of native tree seedlings in a green area adopted by the company. The activity also included waste collection, application of organic compost, and irrigation of the newly planted seedlings, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable practices.

In response to a fire that affected an area of the municipality where WEG operates, the company demonstrated its commitment to social and environmental responsibility by actively contributing to the recovery of local vegetation. Through the donation of native seedlings and the voluntary mobilization of its team for planting, WEG joined forces with the local government to restore a public area, reinforcing its role as a positive agent of transformation in the community.

Environmental education is also a key area of action for WEG. Over the course of two weeks, the WEG Museum Holiday Program welcomed 220 children from the local community for activities that combined games, hands-on experiences, and discovery. One of the highlights was the “Animals of the Region” activity, carried out in partnership with FUJAMA (Jaraguá do Sul Environmental Foundation). The main goal of the initiative was to promote environmental education by raising awareness among participants about the importance of preserving local biodiversity.

During the activity, taxidermized animals representing species from the regional fauna were presented. This educational and hands-on approach demonstrated the essential role each species plays in maintaining ecosystem balance, their natural habitats, dietary habits, and the risks associated with biodiversity loss. The direct interaction with the specimens sparked curiosity and enhanced the participants’ understanding of the richness of local wildlife. The initiative helped engage the local community, reinforcing the importance of conserving natural areas as a fundamental condition for the survival of these species.
