An important contract has been awarded to WEG Italy and includes the supply of one 900 K/J frame size tube-cooled flameproof motor that will be powering a reciprocating compressor on a Hydrogen Gas Recovery Unit at the La Rábida refinery, located in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva - Spain).

This 1700 kW, 16 poles, 6600 V, 50 Hz flameproof motor was entirely designed and manufactured at WEG’s facility in Maia, Portugal, the WEG Center of Excellence for classified area products.

The main features of this supply are:

  • Ex II 2G Ex db eb ia IIC T4 Gb;

  • Intrinsic Safety Ex ia thermal probes;

  • CTs for differential protection and fault withstand capacity all within one flameproof terminal box certified for Gas Group IIC (WTBX XL);

  • Motor supplied with all foundation and alignment tools (soleplate, anchor bolts, vertical and horizontal jackscrews);

  • Commissioning and start-up supervision by WEG HV Service - ENAR (Europe, North of Africa and Russia) team located in Portugal.

The key points of this project were WEG’s ability to provide all required protections inside one flameproof terminal box certified for Gas Group IIC, as well as reduced maintenance by using automatic lubrication devices and forged shaft for increased mechanical resistance and durability.

Among other decisive factors that resulted in the awarding of the contract were WEG's proven track record on supplying flameproof machines for reciprocating compressors.
