1961

En avril 1961, développement de l'idée de fonder une société dédiée à la production de moteurs électriques. Le 16 septembre, Werner Ricardo Voigt, Eggon João da Silva et Geraldo Werninghaus créent WEG. Capital fixe de base : 3 600,00 cruzeiros (trois mille six cents cruzeiros).

1964

WEG achète un terrain et commence la construction de l'usine de production I. La même année, la production de moteurs est lancée au sein de l'usine.

1966

1ère Convention commerciale nationale et Création de la WEG Recreational Association (ARWEG).

Création du Premier comité national sur la prévention des accidents.

1968

Création de CENTROWEG. Aucune formation n'était disponible au sein de la région et les fondateurs ont créé CENTROWEG pour proposer des qualifications aux employés. L'école permet aux adolescents de découvrir le monde de la technologie et de développer les compétences.

1970

Création de la politique de WEG en termes de qualité et de production en lien avec le 1er moteur conforme aux normes ABNT et IEC. Le développement de produits de qualité fait partie de l'ADN de WEG. Depuis sa création, la société s'engage à respecter l'ensemble des critères requis.

1970

Début de l'exportation au Guatemala, en Uruguay, au Paraguay, en Équateur et en Bolivie.

1971

Les WEG sont désormais cotées en Bourse.

1972

Création du premier parc de reboisement.

1973

Achat d'un nouveau terrain pour la construction de l'usine de production II et construction du bâtiment.

Exportation des moteurs dans 20 pays.

1975

Un million de moteurs produits.

1976

Ouverture d'une usine en Allemagne grâce à un partenariat local avec Motores Jara

1977

Ouverture de l'usine de production II.

1980

Développement du Centre technologique (Usine de production I)

1981

Création de WEG Acionamentos

Création de WEG Transformadores et WEG Energia.

1982

Création du Centre de contrôle de la qualité.

Lancement de la première gamme de contacteurs et relais de protection.

Lancement de la première gamme de moteurs haute tension - 100 à 200 KW

1983

Création de WEG Química

1986

WEG reçoit sa première récompense : “Exame Magazine - Best and Biggest Ones”.

1988

Création de WEG Automação

1989

M. Eggon João da Silva quitte son poste de Président et le transmet à Décio da Silva. Les fondateurs créent le Conseil d'administration.

Production du premier transformateur de 10 000 kVA, 138 kV, de 35 tonnes et d'une hauteur de 5,6 m. Le plus grand transformateur produit de l'État de Santa Catarina.

1991

Ouverture d'une fililale aux États-Unis.

1992

Ouverture de l'une des plus grandes fonderies d'Amérique latine dans la ville de Guaramirim (État de Santa Catarina).

1993

Distribuída a primeira participação nos lucros.

A WEG recebe pela primeira vez a certificação ISO 9001.

1994

Criação dos Centros de Negócios Industriais

1995

Filial na Alemanha.

Realização da primeira Ação Comunitária WEG.

1996

Filial na Inglaterra.

1997

WEG receives the National Quality Award.

1998

Branches in France, Spain and Sweden.

1999

WEG reaches 79% of market share of electric motors in Brazil, and it exports 29% of its production to approximately 55 countries.

2000

Acquisition of the first factory abroad (Argentina and Mexico).

2001

Revenue reaches the first billion reais in a single year.

WEG receives ISO 14001 certification.

2002

Acquisition of manufacturing plant in Portugal.

Supply of the largest WEG transformer until then (200MVA, 550kV).

2003

Opening of WEG museum.

Manufacture of the largest generator of the world (50,000kVA, 13.8kV, 4 poles).

2005

Opening of the first manufacturing plant in China.

2005

Opening of a branch in Singapore.

2005

Acquisition of the manufacturing plant in Manaus.

2006

Production of the motor number 100,000,000.

2007

Acquisition of Trafo, manufacturer of large power transformers, and conventional and mobile substations, with units in the city of Gravataí (State of Rio Grande do Sul) and Hortolândia (State of São Paulo).

2007

WEG acquire the hydraulic turbines manufacturer Hidráulica Industrial S/A - HISA. The acquisition reinforces WEG's position on the energy generation, transmission and distribution segment.

2007

It is listed in Bovespa Novo Mercado, a segment of the stock market that trades stocks of companies that voluntarily adopt corporate governance practices in addition to those required by the Brazilian legislation.

2008

Décio da Silva takes over the presidency of the WEG Board of Directors and Harry Schmelzer Jr. takes over as WEG's CEO

Opening of a branch in Russia.

2009

Building of the Transformer Manufacturing Plant in Mexico (Huehuetoca)

2010

Beginning of the manufacturing operations of WEG India.

2010

Acquisition of Instrutech, in São Paulo, a Brazilian company manufacturer of safety, commercial and industrial automation products and systems.

2010

Acquisition of share control of Voltran.

2010

Acquisition of Zest Electric, WEG distributor in South Africa.

2010

Acquisition of the coating factory Pulverlux in Argentina.

Acquisition of the distributor FOURNAIS A/S in Denmark.

2011

Acquisition of Watt Drive AntriebstechnikGmbH, Austrian company specialized in the development and manufacture of gearboxes, gearmotors, frequency inverters and drive systems.

2011

Acquisition of the Electric Machinery company in the USA. A company specialized in motors, generators and exciters.

2011

Establishment of the Joint-Venture with CESTARI Industrial e Comercial – a company located in the city of Monte Alto (State of São Paulo) – to develop, manufacture and trade gearboxes and gearmotors.

Beginning of the manufacturing of wind turbines

Publishing of the book WEG 50 years.

Opening of WEG India (WII) in Hosur.

Establishment of the branch in Peru.

Opening of WEG Linhares (State of Espírito Santo).

2012

Acquisition of Injetel Indústria e Comércio de Componentes Plásticos Ltda., a company specialized in manufacturing and trading switches, sockets and plugs for commercial and residential applications.

Acquisition of Stardur Tintas Especiais Ltda., a company of industrial and automotive refinish coatings located in the city of Indaiatuba (State of São Paulo).

2012

Primer suministro en generación de energía eólica. Fueron instalados equipos con capacidad de 90 MW en parque eólico localizado en el Nordeste del Brasil.

Las ventas del mercado externo alcanzaron 51% (ROL) de la facturación de WEG.

Adquisición de la industria de Pinturas y Barnices Paumar S.A., empresa especializada en la fabricación y comercialización de pinturas, barnices, esmaltes y lacas.

Creación de la filial WEG en Ecuador.

Adquisición de fábrica de transformadores y subestaciones pertenecientes a Hawker Siddeley Electric Africa, en Sudáfrica. Fabricante de mini subestaciones y transformadores de distribución.

2014

Adquisición de Antriebstechnik KATT Hessen GmbH, empresa que actúa en la fabricación de motores especiales de alta velocidad. Con sede en Homberg y filial en Dresden, Alemania

Adquisición de FTC Energy Group, empresa que actúa en la fabricación y montaje de tableros eléctricos para automatización de procesos, con sede en Bogotá, Colombia.

Adquisición de fábrica de motores y motorreductores pertenecientes a Württembergische Elektromotoren GmbH, en Alemania

Adquisición de las fábricas de motores eléctricos para la línea blanca Changzhou Sinya Electromotor Co. y del fabricante de componentes Changzhou Machine Master Co., en China.

Adquisición de unidad de servicio de Efacec Energy Service en Jaboatão dos Guararapes, PE.

2015

Adquisición de negocio de fabricación de transformadores de alta tensión, mini subestaciones, disyuntores moldeados y servicios relacionados, pertenecientes a TSS Transformers (Pty) Ltd (“TSS”), fabricante con sede en Heidelberg (Gauteng), Sudáfrica.

Adquiere Transformadores Suntec, con sede en Medellín - Colombia.

WEG electa Empresa del Año por la Revista Exame.

WEG cuenta con parques fabriles en 11 países y filiales comerciales en 28 países. Ya son más de 31 mil colaboradores.

Adquiere Autrial S.L., fabricante de tableros eléctricos para equipos e instalaciones industriales con sede en Valencia - España.

2016

WEG adquiere Bluffton Motor Works, LCC., una fábrica de motores eléctricos en los Estados Unidos.

Construye un nuevo sitio de fabricación en Rugao, China.

2017

Adquiere el fabricante de turbinas brasileño TGM. Adquiere el negocio de transformadores en Estados Unidos de CG Power.

2019

Entra en el negocio de soluciones para la industria 4.0 con la creación de un departamento específico para negocios digitales y la adquisición del 51% del capital social de PPI-Multitask y V2COM.

2020

Adquiere el control de dos startups: BirminD, una compañía de tecnología activa en el mercado de Inteligencia Artificial aplicada a Industrial Analytics y MVISIA, que se especializa en soluciones de inteligencia artificial aplicadas a la visión por computadora para la industria.

2020

  • WEG adquiere la fábrica de Transformadores y Servicios de Energía de las Américas S.A. ("TSEA") en Betim/MG.
  • WEG se estructura para fabricar respiradores artificiales para pacientes con COVID-19 durante la pandemia.

2021

  • WEG acquires Balteau Produtos Elétricos Ltda, a transformer company for instruments and measurement sets in Itajubá/MG.
  • WEG inaugurates its 5th Transformer factory in North America. Located in the city of Washington, State of Missouri, where the company already has two other units operating since 2017.

2021

  • Establishment of a WEG manufacturing unit in Turkey. The new operation will be established in 7,000 square meters of manufacturing facilities, including warehouses, engineering, and service support areas. The scope of activities includes: Manufacturing of General Proposal Low Voltage Motors and Gearboxes, as well as marketing all WEG products and solutions for the following countries: Turkey, Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia.
  • WEG opens a Commercial Branch in Poland that will cover Poland, Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

2022

Announcement of the construction of a new factory in Santo Tirso, Portugal. The company intends to invest 23.5 million euros to build 22,600 m² on the same land where WEG already has a 16,300 m² operation dedicated to the manufacture of low-voltage industrial motors. It will expand the production of large electric motors and transfer its factory located in Maia to Santo Tirso, centralizing all operations in the same place. The new factory in Santo Tirso is expected to start operating in the first quarter of 2024 and generate about 100 new jobs.

2022

  • WEG supplies the largest electric generators ever produced by the company.
  • WEG announces the establishment of a Joint Venture with the Cevital Group. The company will operate in the production and sale of electric motors for washing machines, initially focusing on the market in Algeria and North Africa.
  • WEG acquires the Motion Control business of the Italian Company Gefran. A company manufacturing sensors, components, and industrial automation equipment, with factories in Italy, Germany, China, and India. The acquisition value is estimated at € 23.0 million.

2022

• Launch of the WEG Carbon Neutral Program with the following overall goals:
1. Reduce 52%* of emissions** by 2030
2. Achieve Net-Zero (neutral net emissions) by 2050
*Global average of WEG operations. Targets by operation and country follow the country's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) or 52%, whichever is higher.
**WEG Global Emissions of Scope 1 (fossil fuels) and 2 (non-renewable energy), base year 2021. Purpose: Develop technologies and solutions to contribute to building a more efficient and sustainable world.

• Inauguration of the WEG motor factory in Algeria.

2023

  • WEG acquires all shares of BirminD.
  • WEG announces a $40 million investment to acquire new land in Mexico.
  • WEG acquires industrial electric motor and generator businesses from Regal Rexnord.
  • WEG announces investments of R$ 1.2 billion for the expansion of Transformer production capacity.

2024

Alberto Yoshikazu Kuba is the new executive president of WEG, taking over the position previously held by Harry Schmelzer Jr. for 16 years.

2024

WEG acquires Volt Electric Motors, a manufacturer of commercial and industrial motors in Turkey. Also, WEG acquires Reivax S.A. a Brazilian company operating in the sector of control systems for power generation.
