WEG has been selected by ENGIE Brasil Energia to supply five synchronous condenser systems, each with an operating range from -200 MVAr to +300 MVAr. The equipment will be installed in the states of Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte and will be part of the projects awarded under Lot 3 of ANEEL Transmission Auction No. 01/2026. With an approximate weight of 550 tons per unit, the synchronous condensers will be manufactured by WEG in Brazil. 

With commercial operation scheduled for 2028 and 2029, the equipment will contribute to dynamic voltage control, reactive power supply and absorption, and increased short-circuit power. These functions enhance the ability of Brazil’s National Interconnected System (SIN) to respond to operational variations, particularly in regions with a growing share of wind and solar generation. 

The complete solution supplied by WEG includes five synchronous condensers and their associated subsystems, including REIVAX excitation systems, protection and control panels, starting converters, and auxiliary equipment. 

For WEG, this project represents the consolidation of its position as one of the leading suppliers of complete synchronous compensation solutions for strategic power sector projects. In addition to manufacturing the equipment, the company will also be responsible for engineering, subsystem integration, and technical support, delivering a highly complex technological solution aligned with the most demanding market requirements. 

For ENGIE, one of Brazil’s leading renewable energy companies, the project expands the diversification of its transmission portfolio and incorporates equipment dedicated to dynamic grid support. The company plans to invest more than BRL 6 billion in the transmission segment by 2030. Between 2018 and 2025, investments totaled approximately BRL 8 billion. 

Currently, ENGIE Brasil owns 4,751 km of transmission lines, of which 3,211 km are in operation and 1,540 km are under construction. The expansion of this infrastructure helps strengthen the National Interconnected System, reduce operational constraints, and increase the capacity to integrate renewable energy generation.

Through this project, WEG reaffirms its ability to develop large-scale, highly complex solutions, directly contributing to the modernization of energy infrastructure and the development of an increasingly sustainable and resilient electricity matrix.
