Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Are motor importers allowed to import or supply IE1 or IE2 motors after June 2025?
The VC 9113 Minimum Energy Performance does not allow the import or supply of electric motors covered by the above scope to be less than IE3 efficiency.
But what if the suppliers still have stock of IE1 or IE2 motors?
The industry is expected to put in place mechanisms to ensure that on the implementation date, all motors on the market comply with the requirements of the compulsory specification. However, should there be any existing stock on the market at the time of implementation, each importer or supplier should apply for sales permits. If the application is deemed successful, the importer or supplier will be granted a 12-month period to assist in depleting of the stock.
Can I compare efficiency values between different makes of motors?
Yes, if the efficiency values are based on the specified testing method. So, it is important to know that the motors were manufactured and tested in line with IC 60034-2-1. The manufacturer's documentation must indicate which testing method is used.
Are hazardous area motors included in this specification?
Yes. Motors for hazardous area locations (for example, flameproof or increased safety motors) are not excluded from the scope of VC 9113.
