Sonatrach, a major player in the oil industry, is increasing its investments to increase production capacity. Earlier this year, Aïmene Benabderrahmane, the Algerian Prime Minister, inaugurated the new separation and compression center “Upside North”.

This new infrastructure, connected to several wells operated in the Hassi Messaoud basin, consists of a gathering facility for crude oil produced from new producing wells in the area and a crude oil processing facility which will separate oil, gas and water with a capacity of 40,000 barrels per day.

WEG delivered for this project three electric drive systems for variable speed compressors including 30kV step-down transformers, air-cooled frequency converters as well as 7MW electric motors. The complete drive systems have undergone a combined acceptance test at the factory in Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil, before being shipped.

Global teamwork was the cornerstone for the success of this project. The different stakeholders, working mainly from Algeria, Japan, Germany and Brazil, had to work hand in hand to meet the different needs from the quotation phase, project execution, commissioning, start-up and up to product training for site personnel which will actually operate the equipment.

We’re also truly honored to share that WEG received an official letter of appreciation signed by the project managers of the end-user and the engineering contractor in recognition of our excellent support throughout the project execution. Now the local WEG team in Algeria is fully engaged to provide a world-class after-sales support to guarantee maximum reliability and availability of the assets.

WEG Algeria, a liaison office created in 2019, is composed of highly trained and qualified engineers to improve support and better serve our customers.
