WEG has recently supplied 24 high voltage motors ranging from 400kW to 1990 kW, spare parts as well as commissioning and start-up services for the Russian customer Sibur ZapSibNeftekhim LLC, under a frame agreement with Technip, one of the world leaders in project management engineering and infrastructure construction for the energy industry.

These electric motors are intended for an expansion project of a processing facility located in Tobolsk in the Tyumen region of Western Siberia in which is located Russia's largest petrochemical complex with two polymer production plants. The first plant is intended for the production of high density polyethylene (HPDE) and the second is for linear low and high density polyethylene (LDPE / HDPE), amounting to an annual production of 1.5 million tons of these products, with a delivery of more than 250 containers per day.

During the construction period of this plant, which is built on an area of 460 hectares, the equivalent of 736 soccer fields, about 16 thousand people were employed, both in terms of construction and equipment installation. The plant conclusion is expected for October 2019.

The basic arrangements for this project have already started in 2011 including development of an extensive work of accreditation, evaluation issues and technical alignment between WEG and Tecnhip.

It is equally important to highlight that included in this agreement with Technip is a whole chain of equipment suppliers - OEMs (compressors and pumps manufacturers and others), which were also inserted in the pre-defined technical and commercial alignment for this project.

One of the key point of this project is the supply of Exd explosion-proof motors incorporating constructive features that can guarantee their best performance under severe operating conditions, such as the ambient temperature varying from -52º C to 40º C.

As stated by Eng. José Miguel Silva, one of the WEG employee responsible for the management of this project, the selected WEG due to the fact that the company presented a more competitive product with a fully complying with project specifications providing a product that was correctly designed to start without preheating at -52 ° C. Among other decisive factors to be highlighted for selecting WEG were the company expertise to strictly comply with the technical specifications, the follow-up, inspections and manufacturing deadlines as well as at the level of contract documentation.

As far as certification is concerned, the entire Bureal Veritage France certification matrix was also fulfilled for the Russian market, both in the supply of electric motors and in the instrumentation fitted into them.

The main features are:

  • Total of 24 electric motors (4 for safe area and 20 Exd explosion-proof) for indoor and outdoor application;
  • Frame sizes ranging from 450 to 630;
  • Number of poles: 2 and 4;
  • 10,000V;
  • Degree of protection Ex d IIB T4 Gb and Ex d IIC T4 Gb;
  • Enhanced safety enclosures Exe, with DC capacity of 45kA, 0.25 seconds;
  • Low starting current and noise level;
  • Temperature detectors and winding and bearings RTD´s and air inlet and outlet;
  • Paint plan and special grease to meet operating condition requirements
  • Plan for specific assisted and non-assisted inspection and testing.

WEG's premium performance in this project allowed continuing and strengthening the partnership with Technip, resulting in end user satisfaction.

Through its Engineering and Production expertise and based on this significant supply, WEG proves to be a brand that is prepared to attract business and compete with the largest players at global level.
