WEG has a team of highly specialized engineers dedicated to transformer refurbishment projects, with deep technical expertise across every stage of the process. This know-how enables accurate diagnostics, customized solutions, and the delivery of high performance, reliability, and extended transformer service life, with a strong focus on operational efficiency and compliance with updated technical standards.

This time, a major player in the power distribution segment relied on WEG’s expertise to refurbish a 15/20/25 MVA – 138/23 kV regulating transformer from another manufacturer that no longer operates in Brazil and had been in service at the substation for over 20 years. The project focused on restoring the asset’s performance and service life, ensuring its full adaptation to current operating conditions.

The scope of services included the manufacturing of new windings, complete core cleaning, the introduction of new oil channels, and controlled drying of the active part using the Vapour Phase process. In addition, technological upgrades were carried out on accessories and the control panel to meet current technical standards, as well as testing procedures in accordance with ABNT standards, ensuring the equipment’s reliability and compliance.

As a result, the transformer returned to operation at the substation with high levels of performance and reliability, directly contributing to the stability and efficiency of the power distribution network in the Palmares do Sul region, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The initiative reinforces the importance of asset revitalization strategies as a technically and economically viable alternative to replacing existing equipment.

With this solution, WEG reaffirms its commitment to delivering robust, flexible, and customer-oriented solutions, adding value through new technical solutions, vertically integrated manufacturing processes, and execution capability, regardless of the equipment’s original manufacturer.
