According to the United States Institute of Scrap and Recycling Industry, recycled iron and steel result in energy savings of 74 percent; recycled copper, 85 percent; recycled paper, 64 percent; and recycled plastic, more than 80 percent. Without recycling, these materials would be destined for landfills.

WEG in the USA is successfully contributing with the North American Scrap Recycling Industry to increase these numbers by supplying complete drive systems for metal and paper shredders.

In 2004 and 2005 WEG Electric Motor Corp. in the US has supplied over 18 car shredder motors and 6 complete car shredder drive systems including the Transformers, Switchgear, Liquid Rheostats and Motors.

These systems are driving car and metal shredder with output ranging from 2000 HP to 8000 HP at 450 rpm, which is equivalent to 32,000HP at 1800rpm.
The size and operating conditions of this equipment make car shredders one of the most demanding applications for an electric motor and its drive system.

"WEG has been successfully becoming one of the most respected and reliable suppliers in this industry, offering not only solutions for new projects, but also designing drop-in-replacement motors and drive systems to replace or upgrade existing systems with outdated design and equipment", said Valdemir Goncalves - WEG USA Product and Sales Manager for Motors and Elder Stringari - WEG USA Product and Sales Manager for Drives.

The success in this industry is not only enjoyed by WEG in the USA.
WEG in Canada, the UK, Australia, Europe and Brazil are also partnering with local OEM's and Users to identify solutions and upgrade their systems.

The synergy among the WEG divisions building the Equipment, the quality of the WEG products and the outstanding support given by WEG branches worldwide fortifies WEG's commitment to this industry and its customers.
