The Reference Term of AXIA Energia’s Digitalization Plan (PDIG) provides for the application of innovative technologies, such as the process busbars, with the mandatory execution of tests through real-time simulation.
Meeting this requirement, WEG is conducting tests at PTI (Itaipu Technological Park), in Foz do Iguaçu, state of Paraná, Brazil, using Merging Units, IEDs, switches, and GNSS (synchronization systems). The simulations cover faults in Transmission Lines, Power Transformers, Reactors, and Substation Busbars at voltage levels of 500, 230, and 69 kV.
In addition to protection tests, failures in the communication network are also being evaluated, such as packet losses, loss of synchronization signals, among others. To validate and audit these faults, WEG is using its network monitoring system, WSNM (WEG Substation Network Monitor), which ensures traceability of simulated events and supports the analysis of protection system behavior.
WSNM adds value to the customer, as any contingency in the communication busbars, even under n-1 operation, will be promptly identified, enabling corrective actions before protection systems experience malfunctions or unintended operations, ensuring full compliance with the requirements of Submodule 2.11 of the ONS Grid Procedures.
