A major food industry company in Colombia has taken a strategic step toward energy self-sufficiency with the implementation of a cogeneration project using rice husks as fuel. The solution provided by WEG allows the energy generated to be used for the industrial plant’s own consumption, promoting greater operational efficiency and reducing dependence on external energy sources.

The supply included a 7.1 MW turbogenerator, consisting of a multistage condensing steam turbine with controlled extraction, a speed reducer, a three-phase synchronous generator, control and protection systems, a condensation system, and installation supervision.

As a unique feature of the project, WEG also supplied the plant’s entire electrical package, including transformers, electrical panels, and a SCADA system, delivering an integrated solution for power generation and management.

The initiative transforms a by-product of the production process itself rice husks into a valuable source of energy, contributing to the sustainability of the operation and the optimization of available resources. The project represents an important milestone for the customer, which now enjoys greater energy independence and increased competitiveness in its operations.
