WEG has just been awarded its first international Certificate of Conformity for Ex motors produced in Brazil. The ExCoC, issued by IEC, the International Electrotechnical Commission, is granted to equipment in conditions for use in explosive atmospheres. The certificate conceded the conformity to manufacture low voltage Ex-d motors, frames 132 and 160, duty S1-S9, temperature class IIB T3/T4 and able to be supplied by inverters.

The certificate was issued by CESI (Centro Elettrotecnico
Sperimentale Italiano) based on test reports issued by IEC and quality assessment reports issued by Test Safe of Australia. The assessment of the system indicated the conformity to manufacture “Ex” motors with protections “d”, “e”, “n”, “p” and “tD”.

Besides receiving this certification, the company, who has already been accredited with the IEC 60079-19 for equipment repair, overhaul and reclamation of motors in explosive atmospheres, also hosted the first meeting of the IEC Ex BR heldat a manufacturer’s facilities. The meeting was attended by representatives from NCC, ABINEE, TUV and SEW.

The IECEx Scheme is an international certification system covering products that meet the requirements of international standards. The scheme comprises equipment, service facilities, mark licensing and personnel competencies. This certificate is issued as verification that the manufacturer’s quality system has been assessed and tested and the products have been found to comply with safety, performance and reliability requirements as set out by international technical standards.
