WEG demonstrated the effectiveness of its HVAC-R coating portfolio in an application carried out in Vero Beach, Florida (USA), where equipment installed on the rooftop of a beachfront building was exposed to severe conditions, including salt spray, constant winds, and intense solar radiation. The project highlights the company's ability to protect assets operating in one of the most aggressive environments for metal structures.

To meet the requirements for durability, corrosion protection, and preservation of equipment thermal efficiency, HereShield WB 506 technology was specified. This single-component, water-based acrylic coating features air-dry curing and direct-to-metal application. The solution was specifically developed for marine environments, offering outstanding resistance to corrosion and ultraviolet radiation, while maintaining low volatile organic compound (VOC) content, combining technical performance with sustainability.

Another advantage of the system is its simplified application process, eliminating the need for complex surface pretreatments or primers. The coating also provides resistance to splashes of various acids and inorganic salts, key characteristics for ensuring continuous protection of HVAC equipment installed in coastal regions.

Applied in June 2021, HereShield maintained the components protected after more than 22 months of continuous exposure to extreme environmental conditions, demonstrating its ability to minimize corrosion processes and reduce maintenance interventions throughout the evaluation period. In addition to its durability, the coating showed less than a 1% impact on equipment heat transfer, preserving operational efficiency.

The project reinforces WEG’s expertise in HVAC-R solutions, offering a complete portfolio of coatings developed to protect heat exchangers and industrial equipment without compromising thermal performance. In addition to HereShield, the company offers high-performance systems such as P 413, a phenolic epoxy coating designed for severe offshore environments and developed in accordance with ISO 12944-9 requirements.

By combining corrosion protection, long-term durability, ease of application, and reduced environmental impact, WEG solutions contribute to improved operational reliability, lower maintenance costs, and extended service life of equipment installed in highly corrosive environments, reaffirming the company’s commitment to innovation, performance, and sustainability.
