WEG has just announced a strategic partnership with Elea Data Centers, the sustainable data center platform with the widest geographical distribution in Brazil. The collaboration includes the supply of transformers that will power Elea's 50 MW high-voltage site in São Paulo. This effort is part of the first phase of Elea's US$300 million investment in its data center project dedicated to Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Manufactured at WEG’s facilities in Gravataí, in southern Brazil, the transformers will be delivered in mid-2025. The partnership between WEG and Elea, two leading companies based in Brazil, exemplifies the development of the national data center sector. As innovative leaders in their respective fields and pioneers in advanced technology in the country, both companies have formed a strategic partnership aimed at fostering sustainable growth in the local market.
Data center transformers provide reliable, uninterrupted power for high-demand AI equipment, meeting the specific needs of each site. These devices regulate voltage, increasing or decreasing it according to energy requirements, which reduces losses during distribution and improves system efficiency.
“As the only colocation provider with majority Brazilian capital, we believe it is essential to acquire Brazilian transformers, thereby supporting the national industry and strengthening the Latin American sector,” says Alessandro Lombardi, president of Elea Data Centers. The executive highlighted that the partnership between Elea and WEG exemplifies the strength of Brazilian innovation in developing high-quality solutions for critical AI infrastructure projects. “WEG has proven to be the ideal partner for this project, thanks to its proven track record in large-scale industrial initiatives. The company's transformers, designed with advanced features for efficiency, capacity, and sustainability, will strengthen our IT infrastructure and set a new standard for reliability and sustainability in data centers,” says Alessandro.
“AI is already part of our daily lives: the electrical infrastructure behind these scenarios must be as reliable as possible because service continuity is essential. WEG has a significant presence in mission-critical systems. Our transformers are designed and manufactured with cutting-edge features to ensure the efficiency and reliability required for these applications. Elea’s demand for high-quality equipment, support for the local industry, and concern for greenhouse gas emissions drive WEG to contribute to a more innovative, sustainable, and efficient world, day after day,” says Carlos Diether Prinz, Global Managing Director of the Transmission and Distribution Business Unit at WEG.
