From September 14 to 18, WEG participated in the 2026 annual meetings of the IECEx System (International Electrotechnical Commission System for Certification to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in Explosive Atmospheres), held in Beijing, China.
Organized by CQM (Chinese Quality Mark), the event brought together industry experts, manufacturers, certification bodies, and regulatory authorities from around the world to discuss advancements and challenges related to the safety of equipment used in hazardous areas.
Representing WEG were Vitor Marcon, Global Quality and Certification Manager, and Christian Duarte, Global Product Compliance Supervisor at WEG Motors, both from WEG headquarters in Brazil, as well as Zheng Guimei, Quality Management and IT Manager at WEG China.
WEG’s participation in the meetings reinforces the company’s commitment to technological development, industrial safety, and international collaboration. The event provided an important opportunity to exchange knowledge and contribute to discussions shaping the future of equipment and standards for explosive atmospheres.
In addition to technical discussions focused on protecting people, assets, and industrial operations, this year’s agenda addressed important topics related to sustainability and regulatory transformation. Discussions on the Digital Product Passport (DPP), Ecodesign, decarbonization, and the circular economy highlighted the importance of aligning environmental objectives with the rigorous safety requirements that are fundamental to the Ex-industry.
As part of the Industrial Symposium Day, WEG delivered the presentation “Future of Sustainability in Ex Electrical Motors: Carbon, Circularity and Safety.” Presented by Christian Duarte, the session highlighted the importance of developing regulations and standards that advance sustainability while maintaining the highest safety requirements for equipment designed for explosive atmospheres.
The event also marked an important milestone: the 30th anniversary of IECEx. For three decades, the IECEx System has promoted international cooperation and contributed to improving industrial safety through the certification of products, services, and personnel competencies.
