WEG announced the signing of a contract with Guaporé Sul Transmissora de Energia S.A. for the supply of a compensation solution aimed at strengthening the backbone grid of Brazil’s National Interconnected System (SIN). The agreement represents another strategic step in the company’s expansion within the power transmission market, with a strong focus on system stability, reliability, and operational safety.

The contract is part of the project awarded Lot 4 of ANEEL Transmission Auction No. 04/2025, which provides for the implementation of a transmission system connecting Jauru (MT) to Vilhena (RO). The project includes 500 kV and 230 kV transmission lines, the Vilhena 2 Substation (500/230 kV), and approximately 354 km of extension, aiming to increase the transmission capacity of the Acre–Rondônia subsystem.

WEG will be responsible for the full supply of a comprehensive compensation solution, including a 165 MVAr Synchronous Condenser, a 165 MVA Three-Phase Transformer, auxiliary transformers, starting system, electrical panels, and control, command, protection, and excitation systems. The scope also includes engineering services, electrical integration studies, electromechanical infrastructure, and assembly, commissioning, and startup services.

According to João Paulo Gualberto da Silva, Vice President of WEG’s Energy Business Unit, the project strengthens the company’s presence in critical transmission solutions. “We are consolidating our position as one of the world’s leading suppliers of energy solutions. This project reinforces our technical capabilities and opens the way for new similar developments in Brazil and abroad,” he states.

Guaporé Sul Transmissora de Energia S.A. is part of a group that also includes Grande Sertão Transmissora, Tropicália Transmissora, and SHP Braço, operating in both power generation and transmission. The company is part of BTG Pactual’s asset portfolio through infrastructure funds, aligning private investment with the expansion and modernization of Brazil’s power grid.

According to the company, the compensation solution supply is part of the project’s technical requirements. “The synchronous condenser is one of the elements planned for system operation within the required parameters. Our expectation with WEG is to meet the operational conditions defined for the project and move forward with implementation according to the approved schedule,” says Marcelo Oliveira, CEO of Guaporé Sul.
