WEG supplied electric motors and variable frequency drives for a cooling solution developed by Enfrio, an Italian manufacturer of cooling systems, for high-power power generation applications. The project involved the supply of equipment for 10 plug-and-play cooling modules designed for generators with power outputs exceeding 30 MW.

In high-power applications, thermal management is essential to ensure operational continuity and reliability. The increasing computing density and energy demand of data centers have also raised the need for cooling systems capable of operating efficiently and reliably, particularly in environments where interruptions can compromise infrastructure availability.

To meet the project requirements, WEG supplied forty (40) 30 kW, 4-pole electric motors, together with 40 CFW500 variable frequency drives with IP66 protection. The equipment was specified to provide precise motor speed control and contribute to effective airflow management within the cooling systems.

The CFW500 drives used in the application offer different control modes, including sensorless vector, vector with encoder and scalar control, as well as permanent magnet motor control and integrated PLC functionality. The IP66 protection rating provides resistance against dust and water ingress, allowing the equipment to be installed indoors or outdoors according to the application requirements.

The combination of electric motors and variable frequency drives enables the system to adapt its operation to different demand conditions, contributing to greater operational efficiency and optimized energy use. In cooling systems operating continuously and in high-load applications, efficiency gains can have a significant impact on energy consumption throughout the operation.

In addition to equipment performance, the project required a rapid supply response. WEG worked closely with Enfrio to meet a compressed production and delivery schedule involving engineering, manufacturing and logistics activities. The ability to coordinate these stages was essential to making the equipment available within the required project timeline.

The application demonstrates WEG’s ability to provide solutions for cooling systems in demanding environments, combining electric motors and variable frequency drives with features suited to precise control, efficiency and operational reliability.

As data center infrastructure and high-power generation applications continue to grow, WEG offers a portfolio of solutions for cooling systems that contribute to the efficient and reliable performance of equipment essential to operational continuity.
